Professional
My name is Jonathan Babcock. I’m a Director at Jabian Consulting, where I help organizations define, deliver, and scale their most complex strategic initiatives.
Over 25 years, I’ve partnered with C-suite leaders and senior stakeholders across industries — including automotive, telecom, government, and professional services — to bridge the gap between strategy and execution. My work sits at the intersection of people, process, and technology: figuring out what needs to get done and why, and enabling the capabilities needed to keep doing it well.
A few things I’m best known for:
- Driving operational excellence — translating strategic intent into measurable outcomes
- Building high-performing teams — developing future leaders while delivering results
- Earning trust at the executive level — advising C-level and senior executive stakeholders as a long-term partner and advisor
- Applying business architecture and process analysis — bringing structure to ambiguous, high-stakes delivery challenges
My professional north star is helping clients deliver actual working solutions — and walk away stronger for it.
Why Practical Analyst?
I started this site in February 2007 because writing about business analysis and solution delivery made me better at both. That’s still true.
But after 25 years in the field, the motivation has shifted. I’m not just trying to learn in public anymore — I’ve accumulated a lot of hard-won perspective, and Practical Analyst is where I share it.
This is a space for product professionals, business architects, business analysts, project managers, people solutions professionals, and others who want straight talk: on requirements, communication, stakeholder management, and what it actually takes to ship complex initiatives in the real world. No fluff, and no frameworks for frameworks’ sake.
If you’re trying to get better at delivering solutions, I’d like to help.
Personal
I’m a husband and father of four, and my family, faith, and friends are at the center of everything.
Outside of work, I’m drawn to things that are positive, uplifting, and beautiful — a habit I’ve kept for years. I also enjoy travel, language (I speak French with near-native fluency), sci-fi and fantasy novels, and staying current on sports, politics, and culture.
I grew up in Michigan, graduated from the International Business program at Mississippi State University (Hail State!), and spent time living in several states and countries before settling in the Atlanta area — where I’ve been ever since and love every bit of it.
