“There is nothing in the programming field more despicable than an undocumented program.” -Ed Yourdon

Perfection (in design) is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but rather when there is nothing more to take away -Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Short Cuts

BABOK Mapping

I was excited to read that work is underway to map version 2 of the BABOK to “other standards that may be relevant to business analysts.” Per Kevin Brennan, IIBA VP for the BOK, we can expect mappings to “PMBOK, CMMI, OMG’s Business Process Maturity Model, and Scrum.” The IIBA is doing these mappings in order to “show that the BABOK’s description of business analysis is both comprehensive and adaptable.”

Kudos to Kevin and the IIBA for going the extra mile to make the BABOK as useful and usable as possible.

Agile Heresy

We’ve all heard of “agile evangelists,” right? How about an agile heretic? Kishore Kumar at Advanced UML Tutorial might fall into that category as he makes sport of agile adherents with a tongue-in-cheek post pointing out parallels between “Agile” and full-fledged religion; replete with apostles, commandments, and even a bible!

Tyner Blain is on Facebook

The Tyner Blain blog is one of my favorite reads on business analysis and product management. I’ve had the pleasure of exchanging ideas with Scott Sehlhorst on a few occastions and have learned a lot from his blog so I thought I’d take this opportunity to plug his new fan page on Facebook. Go check it out and join up!

Just for fun..

I know that business analysis is all about communication and dialog – which often means lots of meetings. Meetings can be effective and time well-spent, or… not.

Thanks to Johnnie Moore for the photo.

  1. Thanks, Jonathan! I've enjoyed our conversations very much too. We need to start working on Alltop to get a business analysis page up, and get your site on the page!

For folks who might be interested in becoming fans of Tyner Blain, there are a couple of things going on at that page.

First – there's a feed with updates from the Tyner Blain blog – so if you don't have a feed reader, and don't want to get interrupted with emails, you can always check there for the latest articles.

Second – the 'notes' section of the page includes links to the places where I comment. This helps me to follow many of the conversations that happen across all our blogs, and will help other people find some of the great ideas that are out there.

Third – once I figure out how, I'll be working to get more of the 'quick hit' content up at the fan page. This might be micro-blogging (like Twitter or Laconi.ca), or polls/surveys. Still trying to figure that part out.

Anyway – thanks again, and keep writing great stuff!

  2. Will be following … thanks for the great post!
