typing.jpgI like open source. I would say that over 90% of the tools and applications I use with my websites are open source, and the variety and features available are outstanding.

This post is to bring attention to an open source application and data modelling software offering called Open System Architect (OSA) sponsored by CodeByDesign .

Per their description:

Open System Architect (OSA) is an application used for modelling a system. OSA currently supports data modelling (physical and logical) with UML in the works. The unique thing about OSA is that it is an Open Source product licensed under the General Public License (GPL). The free factor makes OSA particularly interesting for students but OSA is powerful enough to compare favourably with products costing thousands of dollars.

I don’t do much in the way of data modelling in my current role, but I did download and poke around in the app. a little bit, and can tell you that it does have some nice features, and is well worth the look – especially for you small business owners that could do without having to license similar commercial software.
